Peer-Review

All scientific articles received to the editorial board of „Guram Tatishvili Bulletin of Georgian Surgery“ are subject to “open peer review”: The reviewer and the author are allowed to know each other’s identities.

  1. The review is carried out by three reviewers, two of them are members of the editorial team or editorial board of journal, and one is an invited reviewer who is a leading specialist in the relevant field of medicine (in Georgia or another country).
  2. The reviewers are selected by the Editor-in-Chief for the examination of the submitted paper. The review period is 2-4 weeks, although in exceptional cases it is possible to extend the review period.
  3. Each reviewer has the right to refuse to review if there is a clear conflict of interest affecting the perception and interpretation of the manuscript materials. Based on the results of the review of the manuscript, the reviewer gives recommendations on the future of the article (each decision of the reviewer is justified):
  • the article is recommended for publication in this form;
  • the article is recommended for publication after correcting the deficiencies noted by the reviewer;
  • the article needs additional review by another specialist;
  • the article cannot be published in the journal.
  1. If the review contains recommendations for the correction and revision of the article, the editorial board of the journal sends the author the text of the review with the proposal to take it into account, or to argue with it (partially or completely). The finalization of the article should not take more than 2 months from the moment of sending an electronic message to the authors about the need to make changes. The article refined by the author is sent again for review.
  2. In case of refusal to process the material submitted by the author, the author is obliged to notify the editorial office in writing or orally of his refusal to publish the article. If the author does not submit a revised version within 3 months of sending the review, the article will be removed from consideration. The relevant message is sent to the author.
  3. If the author and the reviewer encounter unresolved objections to the manuscript, the editorial office reserves the right to submit the paper for additional review. In a conflict situation, the decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief at a meeting of the Editorial Board.
  4. The decision to refuse publication shall be made at the meeting of the Editorial Board in accordance with the recommendations of the reviewers. An article that has been refused publication by the Editorial Board will not be accepted for re-examination. The answer is sent to the author by e-mail.
  5. A positive decision on the publication of the article is sent by the editorial board to the author, indicating the date of publication.
  6. The existence of a positive review is not a sufficient basis for publishing an article. The final decision is made by the editorial board. Decisions in conflict situations are made by the editor-in-chief.

The editorial office sends copies of the reviews to the authorized state bodies, if there is such a request.
